11:43 pm - Sitely

As of today, my site hosts 59 fanfics, 3 video clips, and 50 images. Out of the latter, 10 are in restricted section, but only 4 of them display sexual scenes. However, there are people out there who refer to my site as "_that_ site with Grima/Eowyn porn."

That's what I call selective vision. "You only see what your eyes want to see." (c)

09:10 pm - Being in fandom
...is like being in love. Not loving, but being in love (you know what I mean, right?)
When obsessed with a certain imaginary world/character, you're getting careless and fanciful, thinking only about your dear subject, changing moods all the time and having fits of creativity.
The difference is, that being in fandom is pure fun. You're not going to be hurt, and, what is more important, you'll never hurt anyone else's feelings, as well.
That is, if you are clever enough to keep your obsession in the realm of imaginary.

My first real fandom experience was Harry Potter. My, it was such a delight. I'm suddenly all nostalgic for it now. Too bad I dislike HP movies way too much to re-watch them.

10:53 pm - If I could wish for one thing for myself,
I would wish for understanding.
Feel so weak whenever I encounter something I cannot understand...

In other news,
- brought my husband back from the hospital,
- fought with nasty trojan on my laptop,
- wrote a couple o' things I'm not happy with.

That's what I call boring post. Duh.

Mirror, mirror on the wall!
Tell me if I still exist.
See, the verge between the worlds
is as thin as morning mist.

Lo, the chime! It's serpent's scales
changing into blackbird's wings.
There's the one who sweetly plays
and his arm's veins are the strings.

And his fiddlestick is a cross,
and his eyes are bonny-blue...
On his lapel there's a rose
in the drops of scarlet dew.

10:10 pm - Lo, we've got a new obsession!
...and her name be Cesaria Evora.

Also, watched "Interstate 60". Such a superb movie. My husband's developing into Gary Oldman fan. He was beyond surprised when I told him O.W. Grant was played by Dracula.

I want to go to the seaside. Right now!

12:19 am - The movie to break your heart
The Cranes Are Flying (Letjat Zhuravli)
USSR, 1957

Have bought this video like, two weeks ago, and since then had been resisting the need to watch it. Gave up today. Did watch the movie, weeping all the way along. But even through the teary eyes, couldn't stop admiring cameraman's work... That's what makes me believe that cinema may indeed be called Art. Sometimes.

Also, it rained like real spring rain today - the first real spring rain this year.

12:14 am - Haha
A couple of my stories were snatched and published on some Russian badguysphilia site. And without clear credit, too. The site looks fairly new. Oh well. Let the kids play their games.

We've been watching "My Fair Lady" tonight. Its curious how I had managed to never notice that attraction between Higgins and Eliza - literally from the first... okay, okay, from the fifth! minute of their very first meeting. Such a cute couple, they are.

05:28 pm - As Time Goes By - 2
There was this weird news on the radio, about three-headed and six-legged frog found on the lawn in the kindergarten somewhere in England.
A couple hundreds years back they would have killed the creature right there, and then call for a priest to consecrate the place.
Now, they'd let it swim in the pool "to the sheer enjoyment of all kids".
I bet they call the frog Trevor.

01:11 pm - March 8 - International Women's Day

In the long list of things I have yet to understand, is this weird holiday very much celebrated over here. I can only shrug at all those men who buy a bunch of wilted roses at the sevenfold price to present it to their ladies on this special day. As if any other day is unfit for showing their affection (if it is the case; in all other cases, they'd better pity the flowers). And I don't dig the reason of acknowledging women solely for being women. Are we endangered species, or what? Well, certainly not in Ukraine, where more than 50% of workforce are women.
I cannot understand, too, the idea of "magazines for women". If I were man, I'd never ever be willing to celebrate a creature that seeks enjoyment in reading editions like that. It plays vice verse, as well, only we no more celebrate Man's Day on Feb 23 - because it was Soviet Army Day. What a disgrace, duh - to celebrate the memory of soldiers who fought for this land under the Soviet flags; to celebrate the date suggested by communist propagandist is okay, though - because she was female. So to follow their logic, it is okay to be communist if you are female, but it is absolutely not acceptable if you are male. Indeed.

Oh well. Let them be. But if you ask my opinion, I'ld bet for unisex - if we are not discussing public toilets with doorless cabins, for sure.

09:53 pm - As time goes by...
...things tend to change. Like, a couple of years or so ago I'ld wince whenever I see any reference to slash.

Yesterday, I watched "Road to El Dorado" (rather a mediocre cartoon, I'ld say), and thought, "My, that Cortez looks so gay! And oh, that bloodthirsty priest Whateverhisnameis looks so gay, too! And that Cortez spared his life - why? Well, of course!.." Not speaking of the two main heroes, and this nice Elton John music playing along all the way. And today I went searching for some slash fics on the topic... I wasn't successful (predictably), but note the progress!

And oh, some couple of weeks ago they'd been telling me gay anecdotes about our president.

Slash is everywhere.

11:00 am - On Dreams
My husband and I, we often share the same dreams - well, parts of them, at least. Like, when I dream about the sea, there would be water in his dream, too. Or, when his dream is about chase, there would be some running in mine, as well. And once we both dreamt about being in Hogwarts (old fools, duh?), and he was in my dream while I was in his.
Also, my husband often sees in his dreams what is about to happen to me. On Friday he bought analgin and said I will need it on Sunday. He said he dreamt of me being in pain on Sunday. Et voila - I had had a bad teethache this night (again), so analgin was really helpful.
When I at last fell asleep (around six a.m.), I dreamt of being in the mall, in the bookstore, and browsing through a very interesting book. It was about the guy who lived three different lives simultaneously: first life was his "real" life, with work and family and such; second, was his I-net identity, which allowed him to be more like a person he really wanted to be and say things he would never dare to say in reality; and the third one were his dreams - very vivid and consequently linked with each other. He was a witch (a woman) in his dreams. I remember a scene from the book, in which the hero realizes that the woman he'd been emailing and icq-ing with for quite a long time, is his own self from his dreams.
Naturally, when I woke up (just about 20 minutes ago), I could not remember neither title of the book nor its author. I wonder if such book exists at all... My, what a strange appearance I'll make in the bookstore tomorrow...

05:32 pm - *sigh*
One more translation...

Stella Morotskaya, from the cycle "Incantations And Prayers"

To catch you off guard, when you are naked -
warm, milky, dear, my, all mine, real,
to throw in the fire your foul froggy skin -
that sorry, cold, gnarled, ugly, distorting you, thing.

But you'll tear yourself from my arms like a bird distracted,
cry and writhe, and fall into the leaden darkness.
And I shall be seeking for you in a thousandfold cursed kingdom,
in the warlock's endless dream, in the icy abyss.

To fray a thousand pairs of the cast-iron shoes on the stony roads,
to wear off a thousand gowns of tin, forcing through thickets,
to cut up a thousand hands, to weep out a thousand eyes,
holding on my prayers and your damnations,

to perish a thousand times, to resurrect, to reach, to get to,
to kill all of the ghouls, incinerate all the vermin,
to help you out of your watery grave, your dank chilling well,
to lift you, to seize you, my dear heart, all mine, so ill, living...

To be breathing then on your heart for a thousand years,
for a thousand years to be struggling to you through your grow skin,
for a thousand years to be begging for your forgiveness.

08:50 pm - Friday Night
Inspired by [info]hvaharu, I went searching for the "Nightmare Before Christmas".

As usual, oops. I am always sooo amused by the wide and bewildered eyes of clerks in video shops, whenever I come and ask for something...

On the other hand, I consider myself extremely lucky this time, for I managed to catch Anna German on CD. Yay!

12:02 am - Okay, I am one sick old woman, but
I LOVE ALF!!!

Gosh, it just came over me how much I miss this series. I was looking at HP-5 book in Ukrainian translation, and it happened to be edited by the same guy who did adaptation for Alf, Oleksa Negrebetsky (who is a genius of Ukrainian language, btw)... And I thought, should I google for Alf images, and here they go, all looking so unbearably cute, and excuse me while I'll be sitting here with a stupid grin on my face, making Alf icons.

09:55 pm - Inspired by Bulgakov's "The Morphine"
Oh how much more is to this flower white
than frailty of beauty! Sweet delight
of petals fair, yet core as dark as night
is speaking of some hidden evil might.

Behold the purple cross, the warning sign!
This flower's far more dangerous than wine,
and more addictive than the lover's kiss -
its promises are those of poisoned bliss.

Its tales are tales of crystal singing dreams,
where heart of sleeper with such pleasure brims,
that no more doth he hail his waking hour,
but bows down to the vile and tender power.

Beware of flower, oh my gentle friend,
For in its devilry you may find thine end.

07:16 pm - Voice
Isn't it striking, how voice is sometimes the only thing to survive in the wreckage of human body, shattered by the age and ailment?
There is a neighbour of ours, old man who can barely walk, half-paralyzed. I like to greet him and wish a nice day, for when he greets me back, his voice is young and strong and deep and resonant. I sometimes imagine him to be the retired king, Richard Lionheart in the days of his decline.
